TRASTEVERE

The name of Trastevere derives from the Latin trans tiberim (beyond the Tiber). It is the XIII district of Rome. Its emblem is a golden lion’s head on a red background. It is located on the west (right) bank of the River Tiber and south of the Vatican City.

It is one of the most characteristic, beautiful and well-known areas of Rome in the world. It is the neighborhood that best represents that way of being and that sense of popular belonging that the locals call “romanità”. To this day it continues to maintain a heart and a pride inherited from ancient Rome. Trastevere in the Middle Ages had narrow, winding and irregular streets. Today, it still maintains its character thanks to the winding streets covered with cobblestones overlooked by medieval tenements.

Living in Trastevere is like living in a town within a city, where everyone knows each other and the houses and walls make one think of ancient Rome. Spending a pleasant evening in this area means eating, drinking and having fun in a unique historical and social context, surrounded by the shouts and music that accompany the nightlife.

Already in the late afternoon, Trastevere fills up with Italian and foreign kids who flock to the numerous clubs and pubs located along its streets. It is one of the liveliest, most characteristic neighborhoods of the city. It offers taverns, typical Roman restaurants and pizzerias, wine bars and lounge bars for every price range. In the summer, then, the demonstrations along the banks of the Tiber contribute greatly to the enchanting nocturnal movement of the neighborhood. Trastevere is the most authentic and characteristic district of the historic center of Rome.
